The atrium is dim, the torches low.  Shadows and frail, flickery light vine together across the chamber’s brimstone floor, and in the door’s archway the guard is drowsing, his snores like a bellows, his chin digging down into his chest.  Glaring at him from beneath her lashes, the Fire Kingdom’s resident princess blows him a silent raspberry.  Next she grumbles and drops her cheek morosely against her prison’s curved wall, scrunching her nose up at the faint prickle of cold in the glass there.  She loops her arms around her knees.

“This,” she determines, “is butts.”
